Why your help for children in need is so important

In many regions of the world, everyday life is characterised by war, flight and hunger. For millions of children, this means no normal growing up, no playing, no school. Instead, many of them have to take on responsibility at an early age and, for example, look after their siblings or walk for kilometres to fetch drinking water for the whole family.
Unlike in Germany, school attendance is not a matter of course for children in many countries. This is often due to poverty, armed conflicts or the consequences of natural disasters. At the same time, many children are exposed to health risks: illnesses, malnutrition and psychological stress claim countless children's lives every year.
Education: The key to a better future

A good school education creates opportunities - for work, a self-determined life and long-term peace. This is why Help is specifically committed to education in crisis regions.
We renovate damaged schools, provide drinking water and sanitary facilities and thus enable safe teaching - even after disasters. At the same time, by building wells, we ensure that children do not have to walk for hours to fetch water for their families - and can go to school instead.
Protecting health - right from the start

Children are at risk even before they are born - for example, if pregnant women are malnourished or do not receive medical care. The first three years of life are crucial: malnutrition at this age can cause permanent damage and developmental delays that the child cannot make up for later.
Help therefore provides free medical check-ups for infants, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers in countries such as Burkina Faso and Syria. In regions such as the Sahel and South Sudan, we provide malnourished children with special high-energy peanut-based food.
Healing trauma - psychosocial assistance for children

Many children experience violence, flight and loss at an early age - experiences that they cannot cope with on their own. Help offers targeted psychosocial support in crisis regions to give children new prospects.
In Ukraine, we help traumatised children and young people to overcome their experiences of war. In Germany, too, we have been supporting psychosocial services and the reconstruction of schools and daycare centres since the floods in 2021.
