Humanitarian crisis in Gaza
The situation in the Middle East is escalating once again: in the Gaza Strip alone, over two million people are in urgent need of aid, including countless children.
Together with a partner organisation, Help provides emergency aid to families from Gaza: we provide them with rent subsidies for warm and safe accommodation, distribute relief supplies and enable psychological and medical care.

How is Help providing support in Gaza?
Emergency assistance for families from Gaza
In cooperation with partner organisations, we provide urgently needed emergency aid to people in Gaza and support Palestinian refugee families in Cairo.
Our aid in Gaza currently focuses on providing clean drinking water and improving sanitation to secure the living conditions of the affected families in the long term. In Cairo, our focus is on supporting Palestinian children and mothers who have been forced to flee Gaza.
How we help families from Gaza
- Clean drinking water: We provide drinking water, repair drinking water infrastructure, and renovate a desalination plant.
- Safe accommodation: This winter, Help is supporting Palestinian families with rent assistance so that they can have a safe and warm home.
- Psychosocial support: We help Palestinian children cope with trauma.
- Assistance for mothers and babies: We enable pregnant women and mothers to access healthcare and distribute baby food and relief supplies for newborns.
- Medical aid: Help covers the costs of urgent medical treatment for children.
In the first year following the escalation of the Middle East conflict, we worked with local partners to distribute hot meals and food parcels to families in need in the Gaza Strip. In total, we were able to provide around 74,000 people with food. We also strengthened medical care in the Gaza Strip by bringing first aid kits and other medical supplies across the border.

What is the situation like in Gaza?
Famine in the Gaza Strip
Despite the agreed ceasefire, the situation in the Gaza Strip remains catastrophic. Over half a million people are trapped in famine. Healthcare is virtually non-existent as a result of the attacks. The few hospitals that are still operating are completely overwhelmed.
According to the Gaza Strip health authorities, more than 71,000 people have been killed since the escalation of the Middle East conflict in October 2023. Nine out of ten people in the Gaza Strip have been displaced at least once since then. Around 90 per cent of homes have been destroyed, and the electricity and water supply has collapsed. Almost everyone has lost their homes and all their belongings.
In addition, the psychological strain on the population is enormous: the loss of family members, friends and acquaintances, as well as repeated displacement, have left deep scars. Around one million Palestinian children are traumatised and in urgent need of psychological help.
Humanitarian aid is urgently needed, but severely restricted. According to the United Nations, 500 trucks of aid supplies are needed every day to meet the basic needs of the population of Gaza.

The situation in the Gaza Strip is extremely difficult and stressful for children. The ongoing humanitarian crisis and escalating military conflicts have made the situation considerably worse. UNICEF describes Gaza as “the most dangerous place in the world for children”.
According to the UN, over 90% of Gaza's population is currently displaced, including many children. In cities such as Rafah, children live in overcrowded, improvised shelters in extremely poor conditions. Access to clean water, adequate food and medical care is severely restricted. Thousands of children suffer from malnutrition and disease, and many have no access to necessary medical treatment. Humanitarian aid is urgently needed.
The psychological and physical impact on the children is devastating. Many children are injured, traumatized or have chronic illnesses and disabilities. There is a lack of basic services such as education and psychosocial support, further worsening the long-term prospects for these children.
There are currently 2.1 million people living in the Gaza Strip. One million of them, around half, are children. 346,000 of them are children under the age of five.
According to the health authorities in the Gaza Strip, 72,063 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the escalation of the Middle East conflict, including 20,179 children. 171,726 people have been injured.

The Gaza Strip is currently the deadliest place in the world for humanitarian aid workers. Due to the ongoing conflict, there is a high risk of airstrikes, which severely jeopardises security. In 2025, 211 people were killed during aid operations in Palestinian territories.
